About Shareba

Shareba Abdul, creator and editor of In Search Of Yummy-ness.

Hi, I'm Shareba

I'm a writer, recipe developer, and food photographer based in Ontario, Canada.

I create easy, seasonal comfort food recipes inspired by global flavours.

My goal is to help home cooks feel confident in the kitchen with approachable recipes and helpful cooking guides that make everyday cooking feel enjoyable, not overwhelming.

My Expertise

I'm a home cook with a Culinary Arts Certificate and have been fortunate to work alongside professional chefs in various capacities over the years.

I've worked on two Canadian cooking shows, assisted a professional food stylist on a national brand campaign, cooked and styled food for social media and television ads, developed recipes for brands like Nutella and McEwan Foods, and photographed recipes for brands such as Grace Foods Canada.

Collage of Shareba working in her home studio, food styling, client photography, on a video shoot, and giving a TV interview.

These experiences have taught me how to create recipes people actually want to make, as well as how to capture them through photography and video.

I now create all of my content from my home studio in Ontario, Canada, with the help of my team.

I was also a guest lecturer at Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) in 2016, where I spoke to students in the MHSc Program in Nutrition Communication about blogging and digital media.

My Education

  • Honours Bachelor of Applied Arts (Media Studies) | University of Guelph-Humber
  • Diploma in Journalism (Print & Broadcast) | Humber College, in partnership with the University of Guelph-Humber
  • Culinary Arts Certificate (with electives in multicultural cuisines) | George Brown College Continuing Education

My Work

While some of my past projects are under confidentiality agreements, here are a few highlights I'm able to share:

  • Interviewed Chef Michael Smith about the Year of Pulses.
  • Interviewed Chef Susur Lee, Chef Trevor Lui, Chef Luis Valenzuela, and Chef Harminder Singh for a Yahoo Canada feature on Canada's international cuisine.
  • Wrote feature articles about Chef Farzam Fallah, Aimée Wimbush-Bourque, and Chef Renée Lavallée for Food Bloggers of Canada.
  • Developed, styled, and photographed recipes for The McEwan Group and SweeTango Apples.

My photo of Chef Latoya Fagon was published in the Toronto Sun in 2015, along with a food photo that I shot for a Grace Foods Canada campaign.

These days, I focus primarily on building and growing this website.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been blogging?

I started In Search Of Yummy-ness in 2010!

How did you come up with your website name?

I decided to use "In Search Of Yummy-ness" because my friend Mandy and I were always looking for great places to eat. This website used to be a restaurant review blog!

Who takes the photos for your website?

I do! Food styling and photography are my favourite parts of the job. All photos on this site are my own (unless otherwise noted in the captions). I also develop the recipes and write the articles myself.
