On this day, five years ago, I started this blog with my friend Mandy.
We had been going out to eat so often, that we thought it would be fun to document our experiences on a blog. It was just meant to be a fun little project. In fact, I don’t think we wrote more than 10 posts the first year! We honestly had no idea what we were doing at the time, and I never would have dreamed that the blog would grow into what it is today.
Over time, I slowly took over the blog from Mandy (don’t worry, she didn’t mind), and started using it to build my portfolio of writing and photography. Thankfully, I have improved in both of those areas since 2010! My photos were pretty awful at first… and so were my mascots! I eventually taught myself how to properly photography food, and draw images on my computer.
(I think Martin and Benny look a whole lot better now, don’t you?)
Looking forward, I’m pretty sure that I’ll continue to maintain this website. It has become a huge part of my life, and my work, and I can’t imagine not working on it. Even on the days when I get super frustrated with it, and feel like no one is reading, I know it’s still a worthwhile project.
I may not have the best “stats”, and I definitely don’t have the biggest following, but I’m grateful to anyone who comes over to look at my pictures or read my posts. It makes the hours of work that I put into this website worth the effort.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my blogging career, from the friends who patiently waited for my to photograph their restaurant meals, to my parents who let me turn our living room into a photo studio, to the readers who come back again and again to see what I’ve been cooking or eating lately. I appreciate all of you, and hope you will stick with me for another five years!
