This is another post that got buried in my to-do list. I visited Lucy’s Seafood Kitchen twice during winter and just didn’t get around to editing the photos. Speaking of photos… I apologize for the terrible quality of these images. The restaurant was dark and I used my iPhone to take the pictures. I have invested in a proper compact camera for my restaurant reviews since then, so there will only be a couple more posts with poor quality photos.
Ok, on to the food! I have to be completely honest and say that the menu items here are hit-and-miss. I had a few dishes which were totally delicious, and a few others that were not memorable.
One of the best dishes that I’ve had at Lucy’s is the Lobster Ravioli, which is served with peppers & mushrooms tossed in a tomato cream sauce. The ravioli doesn’t have a strong lobster flavour, but it does have a nice sweetness which pairs well with the acidity of the sauce.
Another dish that I would recommend is the Fresh Cultivated P.E.I. Mussels with white wine garlic sauce. These were cooked nicely and the sauce has a really yummy flavour. My only wish was that it came with crusty bread to sop up all of that delicious sauce! Luckily when Mandy and I ordered this dish we had leftover cornbread on the table which I used instead.
Mandy didn’t care for the complementary cornbread, but I thought it was good. It’s a nice change from dinner rolls!
Mandy had the Fresh True Icelandic Arctic Char Filet, which is served with a pineapple and cucumber salsa. This dish fell into the not memorable category. The fish was ok, but would have benefitted from more of the salsa (which was good). The vegetables on the plate are just kind of there… they don’t really add anything. The fries were also ok, but nothing special.
My least favourite dish would have to be the Nova Scotia Lobster Roll Sandwich. This is supposed to be a traditional East Coast style roll with fresh lobster, mayonnaise, celery and cucumber served in a soft hotdog bun. The roll does not look appealing, and it has no contrast in texture because all of the ingredients are chopped up finely. Of course this is just my opinion
The Deep Fried Calamari at Lucy’s Seafood Kitchen is a decent dish. The calamari is cooked nicely and the cayenne gin dip is interesting. It’s not something I would order again though.
One dish I certainly would order again is the Popcorn Shrimp. These aren’t tiny little shrimps hidden in a ball of batter. The popcorn shrimp here are large, juicy and have a wonderful crunchy breading. The chipotle tartar sauce is also very good.
And finally on to dessert. The Bread Pudding with caramel sauce is a rich warm dessert that two people could easily split this at the end of a meal. The Peanut Butter Pie is also nice, and it’s a good choice for anyone who likes sweet and salty desserts.
I personally believe that the best dishes at Lucy’s are the comfort food dishes, and they are worth checking out if you haven’t visited this restaurant before.
