EDIT 06/10/2014: Amoda Tea is now an online Craft Tea Shop, where you can order the monthly subscription. You can visit their store here.
Amoda Tea is a monthly tasting box subscription that provides customers with a selection of loose leaf teas. Every month the company sends out a package with 3 different samples of all-natural teas (no artificial flavours or ingredients), which will make about 5-7 cups each. Each sample comes with steeping instructions to ensure that you get the best taste.
This Canadian company has been operating since 2012, and is dedicated to helping people explore and sample interesting teas. This is a great subscription box if you enjoy tea, and want to discover unique flavoured and scented teas.
This subscription costs $12/month, and you can cancel anytime. There is also an option to give 3 or 6 month subscriptions as a gift. The cut-off for new orders is the 25th of the month prior to the month of your first box, which is a bit confusing… Basically, right now (January 30) you can order the March box. Oh, and all boxes are shipped via Canada Post, with free shipping to anywhere in North America.
The January Box
I received the January box from Amoda, and was very happy with the variety of samples that I received. Please keep in mind that I’m not a tea connoisseur, so I might not appreciate all the nuances that these teas might have. That being said, I doubt the average subscriber would be a tea professional anyhow so hopefully my comments are helpful.
This tea was my favourite of the three. It’s a mild black tea that turns a pretty golden colour when brewed. It smells sweet, and I can definitely taste notes of cherry and chocolate. Adding milk and sugar to this tea made it more dessert-like, which I really enjoyed.
I have to admit, I found the initial smell of this tea off-putting. The scent is very strong in the bag, but it’s much softer when brewed. This tea is pleasant but it reminds me of roasted nori. This tea yields a lovely pale golden colour when brewed.
Minty Winter Wonderland by Tiesta Tea
This amber-coloured tea has a fresh scent, and a soft mint flavour. The white chocolate helps to tame the harshness of the peppermint, and you can definitely taste the Rooibos. This would be nice tea to enjoy after dinner.
Amoda Tea has generously offered to let my readers get their FIRST BOX FREE.

The January Box was given to me by Amoda Tea for consideration.
